This solved it for me: I had cals on iphone that are from google universe (not ical) but I only use the native ios app daily (and OS on desktop mac). Previously shared cals (they must be shared in google obviously as this their home) shared ok to my wife's google AND ios cals, but ones shared in the last 2 months came into google cal her end but not across to ios. Solution: within google cal my end change permissions to edit events and manage sharing. ie the highest collaborative layer. They then appeared under My Calendars at her end not Other Calendars and appeared in the iphone calendars. Hope this saves someone the weeks and weeks of frustration and a 2.5 hour call to Apple that ended with the inevitable "you need to talk to google" (remind me how you do that...?).
