Lexus and Car Play malfunction after 17.1.1 install

Nothing has been helpful; called support, thought I’d try here. I drive a 2023 Lexus NX 350. After iOS 17.1.1 installed, Siri no longer works right with car play. It hears itself and interrupts it self and inserts Siri commands as words in my text messages that I send. Every text I send now starts with “What do you want”. All my texts now read as me being rude. Can Apple or Lexus fix this?

When I first took to car to Stevenson Lexus in Lakewood, Colorado last June I was told they had received a few other calls the past few days with same issue. Explained it was due to software update and I needed to wait for the update from apple and it would start working again. Well I spent next 4 months on phone with apple. They had me send videos of what was happening. They sent videos to apple engineers. In late September they informed me it was not an apple issue. They told me to take car to dealership. My phone and car play worked fine in my husband’s ford mustang so it wasn’t the phone. I told the dealership to keep the car til it was fixed. I also emailed Lexus customer care and got immediate response with a phone call and promise to help me. They called the dealership as my advocate. Their plan was to start with replacing the amplifier but when that didn’t resolve the problem they replaced the entire radio which if not under warranty is very expensive.now it works great. Took two weeks but they figured it out. Have your service person call Phoenix at Stevenson Lexus in Lakewood Colorado. He can tell them what they need to do.

Still happens with IOS 17.6.1 Lexus NX250(2025) small informatics system. Primarily has an issue replying to messages using Siri. Siri has multiple random response to include a loop of Siri saying “it says”, you can’t do this while driving or silence. Tested on IPhone 13, 15 and XR all on the same IOS and of course only the XR worked. So weird. Come on Apple fix this already.

I'm in the UK. I have Lexus NX 350h with large infotainment system. Siri has been'possessed' since iOS 17. Same issue that's been mentioned here. In addition it gets stuck saying I'm sorry & occasionally plays random music. Last week maps opened & gave directions to some place in Europe. Lexus can't find anything wrong & I've been on this forum in another thread about the same thing. This has been going on since November & Apple nor Lexus seem to be listening.

I’m having the same issues. The CarPlay/voice texting worked fine when I bought the 2024 350 NX in April 2023. Then in September, it defaulted to saying what do you want? Somehow, one day in January, it worked correctly and then after the last Apple update, it’s back to what do you want? Very frustrating. Very rude. And for the quality/pricing of this car I expect better from both the dealer and Apple. Been to the dealership several times they keep telling me the problem is Apple. If anyone has fixed this issue, please share what to do. Thank you.

Interesting. We've had a 2024 Lexus NX450H with large display since June 2023 and haven't had a problem with Car Play until I upgraded to IOS 18.1 yesterday.


Using Maps it looks fine, but after selecting a destination, the spinning wheel of death takes over the destination box and never shows directions. Even happens on the trustworthy Home destination. My wife hadn't upgraded her IOS, so still has 17.6 or so and connecting her iPhone to the Lexus, Car Play works just fine. We both have iPhone 14s.


I'll be waiting to see what happens with Rachel9519 after her visit to the Lexus dealer.

Thank you SO much for posting this!!! have been working with Phoenix at Stevenson for over a year on this issue, and all he and their new "tech" guy tell me is that it's an Apple issue and there is nothing we can do. Well, now I know there is something they can do. And I know they know it. I just sent him a text. And I'm planning to reach out to Lexus Customer Care as well. Thanks!!!!!
