Are you using the power supply that came with the ZIP drive?

To show on the ZIP drive must have

  • a disk in it, and
  • Finder Preferences mus t be set to allow extern disk to appear on the desktop.

Finder preference settings:

I know a ZIP drive works under macOS 10.13 High Sierra because I use an external USB ZIP drive on a 2010 iMac for years. That is why it is important for you to tell us the macOS of the new iMac in question.

The bigger problem is that ZIP disks and drives tend to age poorly. If you hear the drive making a clicking soudn that goes on and on, either the drive or the drive have failed.

Hi,

  • Are you now using the macOS 10.13 High Sierra iMac shown in the equipment line, or is it a newer iMac? If the latter, please post the exact model/year and macOS version.

  • Has this computer worked with a USB Zip drive and other Zip disks earlier?

  • What file system is on the Zip disk(s)? HFS = Mac OS Standard, HFS+ = Mac OS Extended, or possibly a PC format?

  • Computer and operating system originally used to create the Zip disk(s) in question?
