Why is Siri unable to play Playlists on iOS 17.5?

Since upgrading to iOS 17.5 a couple of days ago, Siri can no longer play my playlists. I get a reply that says "Looks like Apple Music can't play that.”

This is music and playlists that are in my library that were synced through iTunes from my PC.

I also have an Apple Music subscription but this was not a problem before the 17.5 update.

I deleted all the music from my iPhone and removed the Music app. Then re-synced everything from iTunes. That didn't solve anything. I can't find very many posts on Apple communities or Reddit. I can't possibly be the only one experiencing this.

Anyone else going through this? Any solutions or suggestions? It's most annoying in the car because I can't ask Siri to launch a playlist anymore.

I’m having the same exact problem. I love listening to my playlists in the car, and have resorted to manually starting the playlist before driving. It’s very annoying.

Well, the playlist problem was finally fixed for me and then I made the mistake of buying a new iPhone and iOS 18 and the playlist problem is back again. Siri says looks like Apple Music can’t play that.

On top of that all the other little commands I used to give Siri and she understood what I was asking no longer work, such as if I just say, Siri flashlight, she knew to toggle the flashlight state, or Siri airplane mode she knew to toggle airplane mode. No more.

I updated my iPhone 12 from 17.6 to 17.7, and the issue persists if you ask the following:

  1. When connected to Apple CarPlay in a 2019 Chevrolet Camaro, Command "play playlist", Siri "What playlist do you want to play?", Command "(List Name)", Siri "Sorry it looks like Apple Music Can't Play That" or "I don't Understand."
  2. Command "play playlist (List NAME)", Siri "Sorry it looks like Apple Music Can't Play That" or "I don't Understand."
  3. Command "play playlist (List NAME) shuffled", Siri "Sorry it looks like Apple Music Can't Play That" or "I don't Understand."

It doesn't appear that "shuffle" is part of the bug, since the issue occurs with or without the shuffle command. Once out of approximately 30 times, a playlist did play, but I couldn't replicate it "working" again.

The commands above work normally when the Iphone is not in Carplay mode.

iOS 17.6 just released.

Good: Siri appears to execute playlist functions through the iPhone now.

Bad: Same old crap when iPhone is connected to Car Play. “Looks like Apple Music can’t play that.” My vehicle is a Honda. Perhaps others will have better luck.

My previous CarPlay issues have resulted in Apple blaming Honda and Honda blaming Apple.

Hopeless.
