iPhone 16 Pro unexpectedly shutdown, and the screen became unresponsive.

I was on a Facebook video chat and my phone just went black because it powered off, it’s the first time this has happened to me so I hope this doesn’t continue but then again that’s why you buy the protection plan for the phone to begin with.

I have the same issue with my iphone 16 just this morning when I was making QR payment (it just suddenly restart interrupting the process).. I have never experienced this with my old iphone 11, so please Apple maintain your standard..

I’ve had this happen twice now with my new iPhone 16. First time I answered a call and the screen went blank/black screen and nothing. I turned it back on and it had 68%

it happened again today when my daughter called. I went answer and the screen went blank and the phone turned itself off again from pressing the answer button the screen. The battery was 82%. I had to again turn the phone back on.

New IPhone 16Pro… just shut down unexpectedly in the middle of phone call… first thought I had was the battery was dead… plugged.. screen stayed black for awhile and Apple showed up… battery was at 47% … though maybe it was an update… ( even if it’s not automatic) Nope!! … just keep shutting down randomly for no reason at all

I have a iPhone 16 and it just shut off right when I was making a call. It came on again on its own a second later. And I have also noticed the battery runs quite fast as well compared to my old iPhone. A bit concerned as it’s only 2 weeks old.

Just went to answer a phone call and after I picked up, my phone completely shut off. I had to turn it on fully again like it restarted and didn’t take calls for 2 mins. I’ve had this phone 3 weeks (iPhone 16)

It happens to me as well. Right now I just dialed one number and that number is saved in my contact list. As soon as I click on the number the ring goes and my phone is switched off. In fact, another number that I had dialed still was ringing.

I have 16 plus but this time I am highly disappointed with apple.

I was just finishing a call and the phone just shutdown. I was on 95% battery and I’ve never had an iPhone do this before. I hope Apple will have a solution as it’s a significant issue for many people.

battery over 70%, muddle of call screen goes black then apple logo and have to put passcode, this takes about a few seconds not as long as complety ***** down / restart process.

same problem as mine on Iphone 16 Pro, I had also written here in the community but I can no longer find my post. For me with ios 18.1 , it happened on Thursday that it rebooted by itself . Otherwise the touch worked

It literally just happened to my iPhone 16 Pro Max. I was just in Facebook and all of sudden it rebooted only last for 3 seconds. This is not the first time, it happened last week too. Crazy! I started to think that iPhone 16’s are rushed. Also, I still think that there is an issue on the battery as it drains faster than my old iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Ive had my iPhone 16plus for no longer than a week and it shut down unexpectedly 3 times yesterday, where my partners had his nearly a month and his has worked perfectly fine as is should the whole time 😩

My iPhone 16 Pro has suddenly shut down then restarted after a few seconds. It lost the text message I was writing when it shut down. This has happened a couple of times before. Made me wonder if my phone was hacked. But see that a lot of people are experiencing the same issue.

My new 16 pro just shutdown while it was on the couch next to me, not being used. I noticed the screen went completely black, which is something that isn’t supposed to happen with this new phone. I don’t know if I turned it back on when I picked it up and hit side button or if it restarted. I doubt there’s a log I can access. I’ve had it less than two weeks. Hoping there’s an update released soon that will address this issue.

Are you suggesting your phone screen opened when you picked it up or tapped the side power button? If yes, your phone didn't just shut down.

If you open Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto Lock - what is it set to? The screen should auto lock at the time it is set to, unless you have it set to Never. Even if it is set to Never, if you tap the side power button, the screen will lock.

Unless I'm misunderstanding what you experienced, your phone is likely operating as it was set up to operate.

What people are discussing in this thread is the unexpected total shutdown of their iPhone. Meaning it completely shut down and they had to Force Restart (a multi-step process) to get back into their phone.
