iPhone 16 Pro unexpectedly shutdown, and the screen became unresponsive.

I've had my phone for 2 days and I've had very few issues but just now it turned itself off and on again and now the touchscreen is COMPLETELY unresponsive. I just cannot use it at all. I can't restart it. I tried to force restart with the buttons but it told me it would call the emergency services so I quickly put a stop to that. Is anyone else experiencing this?? (and found a fix?)

You didn't use the correct procedure for Forced Restart

  1. Quickly press and release the volume up button
  2. Then immediately quickly press and release the volume down button
  3. Then immediately press and KEEP HOLDING the side power button. Keep holding it past the swipe to power down and KEEP HOLDING it until the Apple Logo appears (can take several seconds), THEN LET GO
  4. Once your phone restarts, you'll enter your passcode to get back in

Are you suggesting your phone screen opened when you picked it up or tapped the side power button? If yes, your phone didn't just shut down.

If you open Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto Lock - what is it set to? The screen should auto lock at the time it is set to, unless you have it set to Never. Even if it is set to Never, if you tap the side power button, the screen will lock.

Unless I'm misunderstanding what you experienced, your phone is likely operating as it was set up to operate.

What people are discussing in this thread is the unexpected total shutdown of their iPhone. Meaning it completely shut down and they had to Force Restart (a multi-step process) to get back into their phone.

I literally just woke up and went to shut off my alarm when my phone once again shut itself off. This is the 5th time this has happened to me since buying this phone. Apple next time fix all the bugs before pushing out a new device so fast.

I’ve had the exact same issue. I’ve had the iPhone 16 pro since December and only recently has this become an issue, I don’t know if it’s my storage size but there is still plenty there so it can’t be that. I’ll be using an app on my phone and it’ll suddenly just turn itself off and I have to unlock it again. I’ve tried to reset the phone but it’s not making any difference. If anyone knows how to solve this problem please can I have some help because it’s really worrying me and I don’t have the money to replace the phone.

Same here! I have the iPhone 16 Pro Max and it’s been acting up too. I bought it on April 12th and this month (May) it started to randomly force closes apps and the screen becomes unresponsive. I have to keep shutting it down to make it work again. Super frustrating, especially after spending so much and upgrading from my previous phone (12 Pro Max) that was giving me the same issue. My device is fully updated and I have plenty of storage, so I really don’t get why it’s tweaking like this. Apple needs to address this ASAP
