Renaming Playlist bug in apple music + other issues

ive used apple music since the start never had an issues until I updated to sonoma. now my playlist won't rename, not will allow make new playlist, unless I close the app and restart and that is not all the time. sometimes even when closing app and restarting it it won't let me create new playlist or rename previous ones. also if and when it does let me make new playlist I add song to it everything seems to be working fine, I close the app and playlist are gone and if they are not gone or disappeared the songs I added don't show up..

THIS IS MAJOR BUMBER AND DISAPPOINTMENT..

I use my Apple Music with all my music in an external drive, and I use it to organize my Dj sets. Then I have my Dj program read my Apple Music list.. but I haven't been able to do this since apple music isn't working..

I haven't gone so far as to restart my OS. I figured I was kinda due for a new laptop so I got the 2024 a couple weeks ago, figuring that'll surely fix the Music app problem. Same thing though...maybe because I used Migration Assistant from my old laptop.

I found a couple of work-arounds...rename a playlist, move it to another folder, move it back to its original spot, and the changes finally take. But I've given up syncing to my phone (sometimes the laptop takes the old phone info and imposes it on the MacBook library...fun!). And if I do connect my phone (by cord) like I'm going to sync, the info in the sync window shows playlists that I deleted weeks ago....like the app brain hasn't updated since then.

And yes, I updated to Sequoia (on the 2024 model).

Oh...and lots of other interface problems....the blue icon that shows what's playing doesn't update to the tracks that follow the first one.....and sometimes the blue icon shows on numerous tracks at once. Etc. Etc.

Here's an big update:

Since I have a 2019 model and a new 2024 (that I used Migration to absorb all the 2019's info) and both are riddled with Apple Music app troubles, I decided to factory reset the 2019 and see how the Apple Music app performs after that.

I did it a few days ago. So far, the Apple Music app works perfectly. I fully updated to Sequoia after the reset. Then I connected the two MacBooks by Wi-Fi, NOT Migration, and transferred all of my 55,000 music tracks to the reset 2019 MacBook. Everything works perfectly, no bugs at all. I can only assumed that what was originally buggy on the 2019 model got transferred to the 2024 model through Migration. But the bugs shouldn't have existed in the first place.

I realize this is no good solution for most people. But this is what happened. I'll update again soon after giving it more time to (hopefully not) go bad again.

I also intend, once the 2019 model proves completely un-bugged, to factory reset the 2024 model and then return all music tracks to it...and all my files...and re-set all my settings. HUGE time investment.

I looked briefly into this and what I found was that there shouldn’t be an issue with that. I’ve also wondered if it was cause of my over 300 playlist I have that are folder with in folder of playlist and I also have 54,000 songs. I’ve always had this many playlist and songs and never not worked/glitched as the app is doing now..

so this is my first time posting, will Apple representatives come on here and actually help with these issues does anyone know ?

or are we just complaining with no hope ? Jus wondering how these forums work.

Thanks for looking into it. I also happen to have 54,000 songs....in 808 playlists, in 78 folders. (Just counted, never had before.) But it's not like I just made a bunch of new playlists to cause a problem. In fact, I've been slimming down recently.

I've had my folder system for about ten years and never had a problem before.

If enough people post and view, Apple might take notice. They won't necessarily post but it'll go into a "bugs to look into" file at the company.

i will report anything new.

I hope this gets fixed soon. There is nothing like iTunes/Apple Music I like organizing in it and all the editing options and the syncing with my iPad n stuff and this is making it really hard to keep liking and enjoying it the way that I have in the past.

Alan have you updated to sequoia yet. And if so do the same issues still same ?

apple please fix this !

That's great to hear so apple can get this fixed. Sucks that it happened in the first place. It make me wonder how software has been good forever and then it stops being as reliable as it has always been. Seems like a easy fix on the developers side. They don't need to over complicate the software and they should always accommodate the people that have their own local library music and want to use itunes as a player and to be able to transfer playlist to my iphone and ipad.

Apple get it fixed already, please!

I also factory resented my m1 Mac 2022 and all issues for me remained the same.

I also have a MacBook Air, I will try and see if the issue on that Mac is the same. I’ll post an update.

both my are on Sonoma for now. My dj program is still not compatible with sequoia so I have to wait to update to it.

thanks for sharing the new info you came across
