After upgrading to iOS 18, my CarPlay is completely messed up. It is not connecting to my 2024 Toyota Tundra. When it does connect, it plays music from the wrong speaker, the one dedicated for announcements. If I touch my phone, it gets disconnected. In short, it's a complete mess. I thought my truck's entertainment system was the problem, but when I checked with another phone running an older version of iOS, everything worked perfectly.

my apple carplay stopped connecting after i recently updated my iphone 16 to ios 18.2.1 in my acura 2021 glx. need patch soon!
Same for me on my 15, iOS 18.2 and 2020 KIA Sportage. Even took it to KIA. All the techs with their devices could connect. My friend who has an old 6 was even able to connect without CarPlay on her phone. Have you gotten a solution? Considering an appointment at the Apple Store.
Follow up: I called Apple support and my fix was very simple, fortunately. I use Express VPN on all my devices. Once I turned that off I was able to connect to CarPlay without any issues. Not a great solution but at least my system works as long as I turn off the VPN while driving.
So I have managed to fix my above problem.……
I forgot that I had recently turned on contact key verification in my iCloud settings (on my iphone). Disabling this has made CarPlay work as it used to.
