iPhone 16 Pro Max minimum volume too loud

Having the volume set to 1% on an iPhone 16 Pro Max with a shortcut is equivalent to 20% on an iPhone X. The speakers are powerful, but the minimum volume is too loud. Is this only happening to me? Is it a hardware issue? Can it be fixed with an update?

UPDATE:

Today, I visited a K-tuin store (an official Apple reseller), and they told me they had no record of that issue. I played the same song on an iPhone 16 Pro Max they had on display and compared it with mine, and that one didn’t have the problem. So, in principle, this issue has a solution.

Therefore, I recommend that you all reset your phone to factory settings. I’m going to try doing it tomorrow or in the next few days to see if it works. I don’t think this issue will be fixed with a software update.

Likewise, I’d like to remind you that this forum is not a place for Apple to fix anything. If you have an issue, you should contact technical support and report it, because this forum has no reach.

If the problem persists, I will go to an Apple Store to see if I can request a phone replacement. Lastly, I’d like to remind you that your device has a one-year warranty, so don’t wait until the last minute to address your issue.

while limiting the max volume affects the volume of the steps you can achieve with the buttons and the volume of the percentage values it does not in fact change the lowest volume the OS allows you to set before cutting out. You can use decimal values instead of percentages which allows you even lower values, while the max limit changes what value corresponds to what volume the actual minimum volume remains unchanged. See a more detailed description and an icloud link to a shortcut to test it yourself in my previous reply here

Resetting settings and firmware does not fix the problem of too loud sound. 18.4 the problem still persists.

If you turn on screen recording (press the recording button hard and turn on the microphone there), then the volume control becomes normal and allows you to smoothly lower it until it turns off. BUT only the upper speaker works, and the lower speaker is apparently turned off for better microphone recording. At the same time, if you lower the volume to 0, you will hear a loud crack from the speaker on top. You can hear the same crack when you lower the volume when you listen to a voice message, putting the phone to your ear and turning down the volume until it turns off. The problem is both with the upper speaker (crackling) and the lower one (high volume). A smartphone for $ 1000 from the best company in the world is ok

Agreed. At night, in bed, or in the bathroom, we don’t want loud phones.

For all media:

  • Minimum volume with volume buttons way too loud
  • Pulling the volume slider on the screen down to 1 pixel high too loud
  • Setting a shortcut to set all media to 1% volume too loud
  • Then there’s inconsistency between apps of course. Like LinkedIn’s minimum volume doesn’t even start until about 4-6% volume on the slider (when dragging it on screen)

Last phone was iPhone 14pmx, this 16pmx is now way too loud. I think this started with the 15, because my wife has it and she doesn’t even use the on-screen volume to minimize and in bed is constantly hitting volume up/volume down button to hear things but then it’s too loud. With the 14, I was able to get things nice and quiet with the on-screen control.

Please give us fractional percent volume! Or reduce the minimum on the amplifier.

Update: The problem still persists in iOS 18.3.

At this point, I don't think the bug will be fixed unless a lot of people start complaining, either here or preferably by contacting official support.

I called a few months ago, and according to them, the bug is logged, but I believe there must be a minimum number of complaints for it to be addressed. Otherwise, we could be waiting for years.

I'll keep commenting on each iOS version that comes out to report whether the bug has been patched.

To clarify: If you go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Volume Limit and slide the slider down to 20%, the MINIMUM volume does NOT change, nor does it become quieter.

This setting only affects the MAXIMUM volume, as the description states. You can try playing the same video at the lowest possible volume by sliding the volume bar.

It won’t change anything.
