Why are most Google apps crashing on my iPhone 13 Pro with iOS 18.1.1?

Many Google apps (mail, maps, keep, photos) are crashing after about 30-60 seconds use. I have tried

  • uninstall reinstall app
  • power off, power on iPhone (13)
  • force restart iPhone
  • updating to 18.1.1
  • no VPN is set up in General settings

Anyone else experiencing this? Anyone have a solution?

I think I found fix (thanks to this post).

I went to Gmail app:

  1. sandwich menu on top left
  2. go to bottom "settings"
  3. go "Inbox" section then "inbox personalization"
  4. click on "categories"
  5. untick all sections (notifications, social, etc) and click OK (you have to be fast because app will crash)
  6. wait few minutes
  7. go back to Gmail setting and re-tick all sections
  8. and voilà! All Google apps working as before.

Prior this, I also tried to:

  • do a force reboot (volume up, then volum down then long press on power button) --> did not work
  • remove VPN (even if not used) --> did not work
  • reset network settings --> did not work

Hope it's going to work for you guys!

PS: I'm not sure about english names in Gmail app as mine is set to French.

SOLUTION: I HAD SAME PROBLEM ON IPHONE 16 PRO MAX WHEN I UPGRADED TO 18.3.1. This reditt post fixed the crashing on all google apps. I had the same 2gb Google LLC file that probably caused the issue:

"Here is what the problem was and how I fixed this. I knew something was staying behind that was constantly tripping things up on these google related apps on iOS. I eventually asked ChatGPT to help me troubleshoot it, and it did mention something about clearing out data from the google app in the iPhone Storage screen. I thought not a bad idea.

I find in there this app called "Google LLC", and that it's tied to 14 different apps on my phone and that it's almost 2gb in size. BINGO. This is where whatever old data is tripping things up lives, but i can't just delete "Google LLC". I have to manually uninstall every Google related app there is on my phone (14 of them). After that i rebooted for good measure, installed Google Search (which reliably crashed for me) aaaand... no crashing, solid. I install all my other apps, I setup my personal gmail account and my work google account, still solid, I open all the other apps that were breaking, totally cool now.

I hope this helps someone who runs into this, I use Google products alot for work, and it not working on my nice iPhone 14 really was irritating and interrupted my daily workflow. Enjoy!

FYI this is not my phone screenshot, but something i googled and copied, remember my version was 1.9GB and shared to 14 apps. Probably too big and prone to failure."

I found the way to fix it. Which is deleting every google apps on your iphone and redownloading them again.

My equipment: iphone 16 pro on ios 18.3.1

Things I have tried that doesn’t work out:

•Reboot my phone

•turn off “Learning from this app” AI function

•redownloading a single google app

•Logging out google account on the apps

Hope this would help.

Possible fix to this issue, as was experiencing same crashes with any google app, running on iOS 18.3.1 and with all apps being updated. I happened to uninstall Google Home, as this app was not being used and not setup, and all other apps seem to be working well now. The only google apps I have installed which were effected are Gmail, Google Maps, Google, and Chrome.

You have to delete every Google app.. You can't miss any... Delete then restart phone go back to app store and download one by one.. Do NOT use the bulk one that downloads them all at once.. also all Google apps just go through every app I had a sneaky Google app that was there it was app that actually I'm not sure what it did but I keep deleting and redownload but it continued to shut down so I took my time and found every single app and it was one that I never saw before deleted it and redownload and everything is working once again

I updated to iOS 18.3, still same issue.

I've tried to uninstall one of Google apps (Youtube), reboot phone, reinstall YT, and still crashing...

However, if Gmail is used "in-app" (for example, I scanned a document and shared it via Gmail), Gmail inside scanning app did not crash.

What is solution? One week I cannot open Google apps...
