Unable to reset Face Recognition iPad Pro

Yesterday I started having problems with Face Recognition working for various sign-ins on my iPad Pro 11" M1, running the most recent OS update, so I decided to reset it. I deleted the current face recognition and invoked the setup in my settings app. I followed the instructions to the letter, placing my face in the frame and rotating my head as instructed. I was never able to get beyond that step, and I tried over and over again (about a dozen times). What could be the problem? Is this just another "undocumented feature" of this version of the OS?
