iCloud instead of device name in "Find My"

Hi, my friend and I started sharing our locations, but in his ‘Find My’ app, my device appears under my iCloud account name instead of my device name. How can I change it so that my device is displayed with its actual name instead of my iCloud account? We linked using my mobile number (which is also linked to my iCloud, if that matters). I am running iOS 18.3.

Hey there,

Here are a few things you can try to see if it will fix your issue:

1. Check Your Contact Card in Your Friend's Phone:

  • Ask your friend to check how your contact is saved in their phone.

  • If they have you saved with your iCloud name instead of your phone number, they can edit your contact and change the name.

  • This might help update how your name appears in Find My.

2. Re-share Location Using Apple ID Email Instead of Phone Number:

  • Share your location again, but make sure they add you using your Apple ID email, not your phone number.

  • See if this updates how your name appears in Find My.

Hi,

  1. They have me saved with my phone number.
  2. How do you share location using Apple ID? After selecting "share my location" window pops up with my phone contacts and search bar. I don’t see any option to use Apple ID instead of contacts.

Also I would like to point out that after sharing location they see me normally by my contact name so problem is only on my side.
