Why is my MacBook Pro 2013 taking 11 hours to reset?

I decided to reset my 2013 Macbook Pro tonight.

The latest macOS was installed and has been for a while so the boot image should have been saved on the recovery partition.

Why is this piece of crap telling me it's going to take 11 hours to reset? I've been on 11 hours for about the last hour already.

It also took me around 2 hours to get to this point because...my macOS didn't support it's own reset function?

Seriously, what?

Thanks,

CP

Your Mac is the last model-year before the T2 chip and its complexities were added.

there are two slightly different kinds of Recovery.

one is in a Recovery partition on your boot drive. if it is corrupted, then your Mac is forced to use Internet Recovery, where part of that software is loaded off the internet.

From your grousing, it sounds like you have been forced to use Internet Recovery, and have spent quite a while watching a spinning globe. Perhaps you are far from your Router so the Wi-Fi speed is slow. if you move closer to your Router, it might take less time.

If you are re-installing, it will need to download about 12 GB Installer image from the internet, then unpack and install.

lets see— all 2013's are limited to macOS 11 Big Sur, currently 11.7.10

I've not hacked anything, I may have my year off for the device but was sure it was a 2013.

It was the model with the butterfly keyboard before they changed it back to a good one and brought out the touch bar above.

Right now I would love to hack it.

I'm currently at 4 hours to complete my update.

I don't understand why it it needs Internet and this long to reset and reinstall from a partition that has been reinstalled and was updated fully?

I just wanted to reset my device and the Apple website told me for Ventura I had to go this, that and next. (Settings, erase, etc).

This didn't work and everything on the help pages didn't resolve the issue either. I backed up every file and deleted every setting.

Some non-mac page actually told me how to get into the boot menu and be able to reset it eventually.

I have crapy Internet, I'm staying in a caravan right now. My gripe was, if I have the latest macOS already downloaded...it's a 2017 device (not 2013 as I thought).

I am resetting my device, why does it need to be connected to the Internet and take 11 hours?

I had no option of recovery modes to choose from? Is mine just a little diva? 😂
