Installed fonts aren't appearing in my Adobe

I have certain sets of fonts to use for work. Am using a macbook air with the latest OS.

Have dragged and dropped the fonts into Font book and also into the Adobe Indesign > Fonts folder but they still don't appear!

I know that postscript fonts are no longer supported but I thought True Type is still supported (at least according to what I google)? or has this changed in 2025?

please help, thank you!

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 15.6

All of the ones with no extension don't work because they're not TrueType fonts. Those are all Type 1 PS suitcase files for the bitmap portion. These will not work alone. You must also have the matching vector outline font.

Can't remember if it was in Sequoia, Sonoma, or whatever, but at some point, macOS started erroneously tagging Type 1 PostScript suitcase files as TrueType. Pretty much for no reason (I would presume) other than ancient OS 9 and earlier TrueType fonts were also a suitcase files. So now the OS just thinks any suitcase must be TrueType.

Here's an example of a T1 PS font in Sequoia:

It correctly identifies the required, matching outline font, but calls the suitcase of bitmap fonts TrueType.

Even if you correctly pair them up, the Adobe apps will not load them. Nor will MS Office, Quark XPress, SoftMaker Office 2014, and other apps. Others will still list them. It's hit or miss as T1 PS fonts are being phased out.

That is interesting. That prompted me to do a little testing.

I grabbed three fonts from OS 9 (my only copy of Curlz MT was an OpenType version from Office 365).

In both Sequoia and Tahoe, I created a Collection in Font Book and added these three fonts. They all appeared and worked in Photoshop, Affinity Designer, Pages and SoftMaker Office.

So, I'm not sure why they're not working for you, other than Font Book has long been (translate that as, forever) a crummy font manager that routinely does things it shouldn't. The complete rewrite in Ventura fixed a lot of problems, and many of the initial bugs have since been fixed. But give me Typeface any day over Font Book.

Or, your copies of the fonts may be damaged. But as a more than experienced user, that would seem to be rather unlikely.

Just to add a little clarification of how I knew they were T1 PS suitcase files and not OS 9 style suitcase TrueType fonts.

One, the highlighted file above is only 8 KB. Typical for a T1 PS suitcase of bitmap screen fonts.

Two, in Sequoia (and I think also in Sonoma), they're separated by icon, even though both are labeled as TrueType fonts. Actual, old TrueType fonts (that do not have a custom icon pasted onto them) now have the generic EXEC icon.

Hahaha! I did the same thing today looking for Braggadocio. Looking right in my OS 9 folder of fonts and didn't see it. Did a search with EasyFind and it listed as being in that folder. Still wasn't seeing it. Finally right clicked on the entry in EasyFind and chose Reveal in Finder. Took me right back to the same folder and highlighted it.

I'd say I need glasses, but that was more like, "Take the sleep mask off!". 😄
