Transfer failed and ended up with Activation lock, Even with proof of purchase activation lock not removed

Transferring from iPhone X to 16 pro max got Success and Transferring data from iPhone 7plus to iPhone X got interrupted due to call received and data transfer reinitiated data transfer and ended in Activation Lock. Tried with all my remembering email and restore apple software. Unfortunately not unlocked. Hence submitted proof of invoice for unlocking to apple support where they rejected stating needed more details like receipt or invoice. I wonder when I already submitted invoice which has my name on it and all required details still apple support team rejected like bot stating default message needed additional info invoice or receipt.

Apple's official Activation Lock support people did answer you – through the channels they normally use for responding to Activation Lock support requests. They sad that whatever you submitted (such as an invoice for purchase of AppleCare+ was not sufficient proof of ownership of the phone.

You tell us that "Am invoice of purchase iPhone perhaps from Apple unauthorized seller." If the receipt for the phone is from an unauthorized seller, I would expect Apple to reject an Activation Lock support request. Anyone with a stolen iPhone could make up a receipt from some unknown seller, and if Apple accepted those receipts as sufficient to remove the lock, it would undermine Activation Lock's theft deterrent value.

You are gong to have to satisfy Apple; remember the credentials you used to lock the phone – or, if you can't, live with a locked phone.

In that case I submitted invoice copy of my apple care and it’s extension invoice where name also available and serial number all are available. Even then got default statements from apple. It seems like Apple does not want user to use the old iPhone and indirectly push user buy the other one.

Apple might having the user info of the mobile phone which used in while applying for apple care extension, repair history etc when that same user given all required info what make Apple to give the default statement rather than unlocking the activation lock. Complete iPhone box and all required info are shared like mobile serial number, imei, where it manufactured and box serial number etc . In addition while call with Apple support team in video sharing method shown the iPhone box, invoice to ensure the shown the real one or shared soft copy document is cooked one. Even after this high level verification getting default statements is frustrating the user.

Re: “Can anyone from official Apple support team answer the question towards given scenario below.”

This is a user to user forum. Apple is largely not here except to moderate it, and nobody is likely to post an official response here.

However, “ If no other documentation is available, we will be unable to proceed with your request” seems clear enough. You have gotten an official answer, even if it is not the one you want.

Nov 8, 2025 5:21 AM in response to JerrySwat

Talk about claiming people are not reading posts… again your AppleCare receipt is proof there is AppleCare on the device, not that you own the device. Apple has a separate process for transferring AppleCare Transfer your AppleCare plan - Apple Support so device and AppleCare ownership are not one and the same.

Many years ago Apple might reply on this forum but only after several days if nobody else responded first. They no longer do that and will now only put a boilerplate reply here if there is a personal safety issue. Then they just tell you to contact official Apple support.

You are welcome to contact Apple but they appear to have a very strict policy when it comes to device unlocking. Refer to this page for Apple Support for different countries ➔

Choose your country or region - Official Apple Support

Select your country (if you do not see your country, also look for "other" in regions; e.g., "Other Africa"), then "Choose a product". Click the "show" item under each category for more selections. If you don't see one that handles your issue then keep experimenting with selections until you reach one that gets you a chat session or a telephone call and get the representative to redirect you.

I guess now only you it got clear since beginning am never said this is official Apple Support. I was highlighting official Apple Support will get to know about this discussion and am looking for their answers.

That is what we are telling you is not going to happen on this Support Site. Here you are going to see responses of other Apple users.

There are 2 ways to let Apple know:

Nov 11, 2025 11:42 AM in response to JerrySwat

*Sigh* Again, we are not Apple staff.

May I know what's the reason behind removal of my response

Apple Support Communities Use Agreement - Apple Community

I would like to know how a user can with Apple Community Staff or Activation Unlock Team.

See all the posts and links about how to contact Apple itself. The one thing that is clear is nobody from Apple is here except to moderate. They don't say anything, they just do things. They will no respond to your questions if they even read them.

Offical Apple pages neither mentioned invoice only taken as proof ownership

Correct. They do not say that, but then neither do they not say that. This is where you have to rely upon experienced users to provide additional guidance.

Then could you let me know why other team in Apple claims same invoice can't be considered for processing request?

Nobody here has any idea what goes on in the backroom. Even if they did, they would not be allowed to say. Again, we are not Apple. If you think you have something to demonstrate you are the owner then show it to Apple. It wouldn't matter if we 1000% agreed with you. The only ones who can decide are Apple.

Will any stolen device will have invoice, box, iphone and complete set?

Not really sure what you are asking here. I suppose if somebody kept their original Apple invoice with a device when it is stolen then it could be unlocked. I don't think I have seen anybody post that scenario. Most users can't even keep track of their original receipts at all. Me, I have some receipts that are 40 years old. The company said the part has a "lifetime" warranty and I make them stick to their promise.

I guess you might not read the response fully. I didn’t stated apple care in mobile. I was referring the invoice given by Apple store when you extend your apple care from apple store which have device owner name, serial number etc. I submitted that as well still I got default statements only rather get unlocking support.

This iPhone was used by me with my Apple ID. After moving to latest model iPhone and when I made this iPhone for ready trade in option ended up in this Activation unlock.

Apple Response for Activation Unlock below.

For us to reconsider your request, please provide all documents you have showing the purchase of the device. Examples include, but are not limited to, sales receipt, invoice, or carrier contract.

If you have no other documents, contact your reseller for proof of ownership. If no other documentation is available, we will be unable to proceed with your request.

In this case I really wonder why invoice given by Apple Showroom on purchase of Apple Care will not be considered as an additional supporting document as proof of ownership.

Can anyone from official Apple support team answer the question towards given scenario below.

Scenario:

iPhone logged with apple account and being used, due to Transfer got complete to new iPhone, Active user selecting the option for “Erase the phone and make ready for Trade In” and Erasing successfully completed.

Question:

1.What will be the apple account will be now available in the erased iPhone?

2.Will this erased iPhone able to accept the transfer from another iPhone?

3.Am invoice of purchase iPhone perhaps from Apple unauthorized seller. However, that seller invoice has their shop Tax ID, purchased person name, mode of payment, Date, phone model, serial number. Purchased Person enabling the Apple Care + from Apple showroom and that invoice name and name in unauthorized seller invoice name, phone serial number are also identical then why can’t be considered for additional support document as proof of owner?

Nov 8, 2025 4:19 AM in response to Servant of Cats

Yep this can be user to user forum. However, I can see still official Apple support team can answer for my queries since their product only issue is there.

As you can see any they have mentioned in their examples “

Examples include, but are not limited to, sales receipt, invoice, or carrier contract.

documents are not limited due to that whatever I have to prove my ownership I have submitted. If they can’t accept my invoice which is given by the Apple Showroom itself in that case I need the answers for my queries from the official Apple Support Team. I hope everyone clear with point.

Nov 8, 2025 4:57 AM in response to Servant of Cats

If you can’t give a valid answer then I would suggest let Apple officials to answer. In your previous response “

I would expect Apple to reject an Activation Lock support request. Anyone with a stolen iPhone could make up a receipt from some unknown seller, and if Apple accepted those receipts as sufficient to remove the lock, it would undermine Activation Lock's theft deterrent value.

So are you confirming that apple will put the apple care + for a stolen device without verifying the user and serial number?

Should I take your statement on behalf Apple official to take your response for legal documentation?

I would suggest you to go through several other threads similar to this discussion. Just you be in that situation then you will know what the legitimate user going through on this topic.

Nov 8, 2025 7:48 AM in response to Limnos

I guess you here rather giving solution people are trying to dilute the topic or take in to another direction. Am not sure how you are referring that Apple Care in mobile and invoice for that does not directly refer the ownership. If so also in my previous post that’s why asked give the confirmation on behalf Official Apple Support team with that it can be documented for legalization. Nevertheless, in the link which you shared all four points indirectly says even Apple Care info of owner is also legitimate with that only Apple enabling the transfer of Apple Care from existing owner to new owner.

in addition nowhere Apple didn’t mentioned they can’t consider the receipt of Apple Care. Let Apple Official Support team say they are enabling apple care without any verification then we can talk here whether considering the Apple Care + invoice is valid or not.

Am looking forward for answers for my queries from Apple Official Support team. Even if they strict policy for unlocking that’s fine this is not stolen device and I can many user suffered with this issue either they gifted to parents or child and ended up in this situation. Perhaps they didn’t ended up asking queries with Apple Official Support. If people have all valid proof with that also still getting blocked for unlocking is also kind of indirectly pushing the user to move for buy new mobile to increase the mobile phone sale.

As stated by two of us earlier, Apple does not respond in this forum unless it is a physical safety issue, and only then with a message saying to contact them using another method. They may not even read your post. This is a user-to-user support forum. We are just regular consumers like you. If you want to speak with somebody from Apple, use the contact method I provided in a previous post.

Nov 8, 2025 10:58 AM in response to Limnos

Again if you are able give valid answers share it else leave it. Let Apple officials confirm in this public forum that they can’t accept their own invoice as proof of ownership or stating without verification only they enabling Apple Care.

In addition am not sure now how you changing your own statements. One way you saying Apple Care can be transferred and you shared a procedure link and your statement says as well “

You could sell a device but not transfer Applecare to the new owner. AppleCare would be under your name but the device would no longer belong to you.

then suddenly you saying Apple Care can’t be transferred. So I would suggest let Apple Officials confirm the answers to my queries.

Nov 8, 2025 11:32 AM in response to JerrySwat

I very clearly stated that you could sell a device and not transfer Applecare, but that is optional. You can transfer it, but selling a device does not automatically transfer coverage too.

I also clearly stated that Apple will not reply to you here. In the past 3 years I have only seen them do that when somebody made a comment about personal physical safety. Even then Apple did not address the issue but simply told the person to contact them through official support channels. This forum is not official support.

If English is not your native language then please let us know so we can try to state things in simpler language.

Transfer failed and ended up with Activation lock, Even with proof of purchase activation lock not removed
