External Hard Drive as seamless expansion of internal storage?

How do I use an external hard drive as a seemless expansion of my internal storage? I have a Mac mini that is full. I have an external hard drive that. is formatted for a Mac.

Mac mini 2018 or later

You can move your Photos and/or Music Libraries to the external drive.

Just BEWARE that you should always have a good backup before moving the Libraries and then maintain good backup of both your Internal drive and External media drive on another external drive.
