When I delete an email, sometimes it deletes the email above that one or the one below it. I have to go to trash and move it back to my inbox emails. I did not make any changes to preferences!

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?
Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.
If you have no POP accounts & they’re all IMAP accounts then in Mail’s Mailbox menu choose Rebuild.

I have waited to make sure the problem was corrected. I did the safe boot and then the rebuild- I think I'm fixed!! It has not happened again since the repairs.
