Downtime affecting Audio Messages

I have downtime restrictions on my phone that a friend of mine holds the password to, so that I can’t be on social media at night. However, this is also preventing me from sending audio messages, which I don’t want. I haven’t found a solution to this, and it’s super annoying!

Hi silas286,

To change the options for Screen Time, open Settings > Screen Time > App Limits. Depending on how your friend set this up, your friend who holds the password should be able to remove the Messages app from the app limit option. They may need to set up the limits again to remove Messages.

Additional guidance is here:

"Set limits for app use

You can set a time limit for a category of apps (for example, Games or Social Networking) and for individual apps.

  1. Go to Settings  > Screen Time, then turn on Screen Time if you haven’t already.
  2. Tap App Limits, then tap Add Limit.
  3. Select one or more app categories.
  4. To set limits for individual apps, tap the category name to see all the apps in that category, then select the apps you want to limit. If you select multiple categories or apps, the time limit you set applies to all of them.
  5. Tap Next, then set the amount of time allowed.
  6. To set an amount of time for each day, tap Customize Days, then set limits for specific days.
  7. When you finish setting limits, tap Add.

To temporarily turn off all app limits, tap App Limits on the App Limits screen. To temporarily turn off a time limit for a specific category, tap the category, then turn off App Limit.

To remove a time limit for a category, tap the category, then tap Delete Limit."

This information is from the iPhone user guide, Set up Screen Time for yourself on iPhone.

Take care.

Hi silas286,

It seems like you want to change the Downtime settings, correct? If so, please check out the information outlined in the following page, which explains how to manage Downtime, and how to choose which apps are allowed and available: Use Screen Time on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Manage Screen Time settings

Go to Settings > Screen Time. Then tap See All Activity, select a category in the list below and set limits. You can manage these settings with Screen Time:

Downtime

Downtime

When you schedule downtime in Settings, only phone calls and apps that you choose to allow are available. Downtime applies to all of your Screen Time-enabled devices, and you get a reminder five minutes before it starts. If you set a Screen Time passcode, Downtime includes an additional setting: Block At Downtime. When you choose this setting and you click Ask For More Time when Downtime starts, entering the passcode allows you to approve the app for 15 minutes, an hour, or all day. Child accounts can click One More Minute once, or click Ask For More Time to send their request to the parent account for approval.

Thanks!
