My backlight display is spotty on the bottom. Some dark spots. This must be from the cable wearing itself just like people have reported. Just wondering if there is any update to the 15" being covered as the 13" is.

No update here for the 15".

All you can do is take it in and have it repaired.
At this time, there is no Service Program for this 15" issue of the projector cable, or the 2017 MBP.
