Remote options when using iPad connected to TV with AV adapter (like my iPhone)

I have successfully connected my iPad 4 to TV with Apple lightening digital AV adapter (with the HDMI cord) which works successfully to play on TV monitor. Is there a way to use a remote to control my iPad (like “play and pause a video” ) from across the room? Can I configure my iPhone to be a remote?

Hello snowgoddess81,

Thanks for reaching out about the remote app. There will not be a way to control a physically connected device via another device, but we do have a remote app that works with Apple TV or AirPlay 2-compatible smart TVs. For more information visit: Set up the Apple TV Remote on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Cheers!
