Installing Big Sur 11.4

I have trouble installing Big Sur 11.4 on my iMac. The process stops after a while with an error message "...internet not available". The internet is available through ethernet. On another device of mine there was no issues.


On advice from Apple, I tried to install in "safe mode", - stille the same issue.

Next advice to go into recovery mode and recover current OS. There the system tells me that my free space (as seen in "system report" of 25 GB is app. 20 GB to little).


I have deleted up to 180 GB and can see that I have free space of 190 GB "Purgable Data". But still only 25 GB reported through system report or through the apple disk utility.


How do I free up the "pursuable data" space?

Problem solved.


The problem behind Big Sur 11.4 upgrade failure, - getting the below error message



was not the internet connections, - but lack of REAL free space. The upgrade required app. 55 GB real free space and only 25 was available. My Mac had over 190 GB pursuable space, - but obviously the upgrade process was not able to utility this.


I am unsure what did the trick. I ticked off all of the recommended actions, - but nothing happened immediately, - perhaps it required "overnight" time to run through certain routines.

I did as well disconnect my Time Machine and backup routine, - perhaps that was the reason.


Anyway, - next morning pursuable space was reduced from 190 GB to 75 GB, - REAL free space up from 25 GB to 150 GB and the upgrade to Big Sur 11.4 was succesful
