updating to Apple TV to Apple TV 4K (next gen)

I would like to upgrade my wife's Apple TV to the latest generation 4K version. Is there an easy process to move her profile to the new 4K device without having to install all the apps fresh and re-doing logins and such?

It would be ideal to just move them from one machine to the next.

TIA.

  • If the old Apple TV box was 4th generation or later, then you can use One Home Screen to sync the home screens between the old and the new (through iCloud). Set the old one to use One Home Screen first, then set up the new one and have it sync.
  • If the old Apple TV box was 3rd generation or earlier, then you will have to set up manually, as the that old models worked quite differently.
