Let's not overlook SoftMaker's Office 2021 suite which has familiar Word and Excel UI design, and opens these documents in their native formats.
You are going to get a chuckle out of this, but I just snagged Office 2021 Home and Business for $50USD for my 2021 M1 Pro MBP. There was no reason in the world to do this other than the price point which is down $200USD from the retail price.

You will have to upgrade Microsoft Office to the current version, downgrade macOS to your previous installation, or find an alternative office suite.
The rumor mill has it 2021 will be the last standalone version of Office that will be offered. Subscription only after that.
