That is the current workaround until Meta provides an update to fix the problem with Facebook. They have a poor track record when it comes to bug fixes especially those found on the iPad.

I’ve tried ALL of these suggestions and nothing has worked. And it won’t even open on the browser, this is so frustrating and annoying.
I’m having the same issue, my messenger crashes as soon as I open it, I’ve reached out to Facebook but there has been no resolution BUT it works perfectly on my PC, it’s just on my phone and tablet.
Still didn’t fix my issue 🥲
