21 Honda CRV Apple CarPlay issues

Brand new 21 CRV. I’ve been having Apple CarPlay connection issues since day 1. It originally connected, then suddenly disconnected, then lost. I’ve tried the various fixes. Unplug and plug back the USB, remove and reconnect iPhone connection. Tried various cables. A reset holding the power button worked once. I also did the actual reset to factory too. It works intermittently, so frustrating!

Its definitely buggy. You would think by now Honda and Apple would have this working flawlessly!!

Has anyone actually found a permanent fix? Does any Honda owner actually have an ongoing stable connection experience with their iPhone and Apple CarPlay? If yes, please share your iPhone model, iOS, any solutions you may have found. Thanks.

I have an iPhone X, with iOS 14.3.

Found 3 things that in combination made it work again!

  • CarPlay settings - allow CarPlay when phone is locked
  • Face ID & Passcode - allow USB Accessories
  • Reboot the CRV system by holding down the Volume knob until you get the ‘reboot’ command.

Worked for me as follows - before starting the car, removed USB cable, settings in phone adjusted as above, rebooted CRV system. Mine is working again after a few very annoying weeks.

I’m following this. I brought a brand new 2020 CR-V in December. CarPlay worked perfectly in my 2017 CR-V and still works perfectly in my wife’s 2019 CR-V. But it’s never worked in my new car. It might work for two minutes or half an hour. It disconnects randomly, for example if I use the turn signal or if a podcast ends. The only way to reconnect is to stop the car, turn it off and turn it back on. Finally the Ottawa Honda dealership told me in March that the manufacturer was aware of the problem and was working on a fix. As of June there is still no fix. This is extremely frustrating. It’s a Honda problem, not an Apple problem.

Thank you. FYI, in between posting my original message and now I turned the phone off and on, wiped all of the previous pairings that I'd had on my phone, and tried CarPlay again. As soon as I plugged in this time, it was connected. Very glitchy, either on the phone or on the car, but one way or the other, I wish it would be fixed. I bought a new car specifically so that I could use CarPlay (had a perfectly good 2016 that didn't have it) and it's very frustrating that it's so temperamental!

I’ve been having issues since day one. I have the 2021 Honda CR-V hybrid tour edition and max pro iPhone. Now my Honda thinks it’s connected to my phone through car play when it isn’t so I cannot even connect to my Bluetooth or usb because it says it’s connected to the car play, but yet when I do connect it, it will not work. It’s super frustrating and eventually it just fixes itself.

It doesn’t help.

I’ve done those steps.

So tonight, Apple CarPlay starts off ok on my trip, 45 minutes into the drive, Apple CarPlay suddenly disconnects, vanishes off the CRV screen, it goes to playing music on Bluetooth.

The Apple CarPlay icon disappears, I lose my maps. I try connecting and disconnecting USB cable, I tried rebooting phone, it was not recognized.

Am I expected to pull off the highway, turn off the car, reboot everything to get it back online? It doesn’t work every time even doing that.

This is very disappointing.

Please fix, or test, specifically the connections with a 21 Honda CRV.

Yes it’s very frustrating.

I have yet to have a trip with Apple CarPlay not giving me issues.

I wish this could be troubleshooted further, like Apple, can you check a diagnostic on the iPhone as to why it suddenly crashes on the phone side.

I have an iPhone X, OS 14.4.

I do wonder if it’s my phone, my son seems to have less problems with his XR.

I also wonder if something else running on my phone that I’m aware of is causing this issue.

I consider myself a power user, I am in IT too, and am used to troubleshooting things .

a diagnostic report from the phone on what may have caused the disconnect/crash would be helpful. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

Otherwise it’s the Honda Head Unit, many many reports of issues.

Who is the culprit??!??
